Outdoor festivals inspire fashion in a distinct way. The green grass, the massive crowds, the pumping music, the guitar playing cute boys and the multitude of distractions create a scene that is mysterious, alluring, and aesthetically indulgent. The clothing is a reflection of the essence of music festivals and often hark back to the free spirited energy and fashion of the 1970s. Woodstock among the most famous, music festivals were retreats from the grind of every day expectations and created a utopia of sorts that was accessorized by creative fashion enthusiasts. This years Coachella Festival is no different. This infamous music and arts festival in Indio, CA is in its twelfth year. Though it originally began as an authentic, down home, locally grown music festival in which indie bands played, it has emerged as a marriage of mainstream artists, actors and actresses and dutiful, outspoken fashionistas. This year's lineup was particularly impressive. The Strokes, Kanye West, Arcade Fire and Kings of Leon rocked the stage and captivated their audiences. and where is the fashion in this year's festival? Why the likes of Philip Lim hosted a pool party, among the many coveted events. And why not celebrate the festival and the almost always perfect weather in Southern California. We should all be so lucky.
